Our Purpose

TERADYNE, where experience meets innovation and driving excellence in every connection. We are fueled by creativity and diversity of thought and in our workforce. Our employees are supported to innovate and learn something new every day.

We cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views, and experiences. We believe that our differences enable us to be a better team – one that makes better decisions, drives innovation and delivers better business results.

Opportunity Overview

The Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne.   We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:

Create long-term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.

Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions to new business opportunities that are relatively adjacent to our core business.  These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.

You’ve spent your career pushing RF and mm-wave hardware to its limits: phased arrays, radar front ends, sensing systems that have to work the first time. Now apply that expertise to one of the hardest measurement problems in commercial electronics: testing the chips that will power the next generation of communication and sensing at frequencies up to sub-THz. The Teradyne Innovation Lab is our pathfinding team. We develop breakthrough concepts for the semiconductor test systems of the future. As a Senior Microwave R&D Engineer , you’ll help define how ICs operating from RF through sub-THz, with wide modulation bandwidths, get characterized and validated before they reach the market.

What You’ll Do

Support pathfinding design and development of sub-THz instrumentation for next-generation communication and sensing ICs

Develop Over-the-Air (OTA) hardware and new test methodologies for highly integrated mm-wave and sub-THz devices, including antenna-in-package and phased-array chipsets

Build and iterate on prototypes in rapid cycles, validating performance through simulation, measurement, and refinement

Help transition advanced microwave subsystems from the lab into Teradyne’s automated test equipment (ATE) portfolio, taking your designs from prototype to product

All About You

We seek individuals who share our passion and determination. Our commitment to customer success drives us to go the extra mile. If you’re ready to join us in this mission, take a closer look at the minimum criteria for the position.

You’ve designed, built, and measured hardware where margins are thin and performance is non-negotiable. You’re comfortable defining the problem as well as solving it, and you want your work to set direction rather than follow a spec.

Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; PhD preferred

10+ years of hands-on microwave design and development above 10 GHz

Proficiency with ADS, HFSS, Cadence, or Microwave Office, and with VNAs, spectrum analyzers, and related measurement equipment

Software development skills in MATLAB and Python for modeling, automation, and data analysis

Command of PCB layout rules for signal integrity above 10 GHz

Familiarity with beamforming, phased array antennas, mm-wave packaging, and signal processing for radar and sensing applications

Strong analytical thinking and an innovative mindset; you thrive in ambiguity and adapt quickly when the problem changes

Preferred: experience in waveguide and antenna design, characterization, and OTA measurement (e.g., compact range, near-field, or anechoic chamber testing)
