Saved job description
At Williams, we’re powering a cleaner, more connected future, and that starts with you. Here, your work fuels communities, drives innovation, and helps deliver reliable energy the world depends on. Join a Fortune 500 team that invests in your growth, values your contributions, and challenges you to make a lasting impact every day.
The Senior Construction Manager leads the planning, coordination, and execution of power generation construction projects and serves as the company field representative and single point of contact for all construction-related activities, including coordination of work by others.
You will lead teams and collaborate with construction management and inspection teams across generating facility construction — turbine and generator installation, HRSG and heat-recovery erection, balance-of-plant mechanical and piping, high-voltage electrical and substation work, controls installation, and commissioning support — with safety as the highest priority. The role holds accountability for front-end planning, construction estimate development and analysis, input on contracting strategy and contractor qualification and selection, contract management, review and acceptance of the contractor’s Inspection and Test Plan (ITP) and QA/QC staffing plans, construction cost and schedule management, and liaison activities with Operations, Engineering, and the Commissioning team. You will informally lead the on-site construction team (typically 5 to 15 reports) and may be assigned to projects of varying size, scope, and complexity.
In this West region role within Williams’ growing Power organization, you’ll focus on maintenance capital: the planned investment we make in operating power generation facilities to keep them safe, reliable, and available, including equipment repairs, replacements, upgrades, and reliability improvements. You’ll be the field leader who turns plans into safe, high-quality work on live, operating sites, often during tight planned outage windows where schedule and coordination matter most. You’ll work hand in hand with plant operations and maintenance teams and the project managers who plan this work, and you’ll help build the field execution base for a West team that is growing along with the region’s power portfolio.
Your work will challenge you, and with our Core Values to guide you, you’ll quickly learn and grow with us.
Responsibilities/Expectations:
Accountable for front-end construction planning, estimate development and analysis, and contract management
Directs on-site construction execution and contractor performance
Provides input on QA/QC staffing plans, construction cost and schedule management, and liaison activities with business partners including Plant Operations, Engineering, and the Commissioning team
Provides input on contracting strategy and contractor qualification and selection
Reviews and accepts the contractor’s Inspection and Test Plan (ITP); reviews contractor schedules, execution plans, and extra work claims
Manages construction cost, schedule, quality, and safety performance
Develops and runs construction progress reporting; leads construction closeout and turnover to Operations, including data books, project completion reports, and lessons learned
Performs and documents audits of inspection processes and documentation requirements
Coordinates heavy lifts, large-component setting, energization sequencing, and mechanical and electrical completion walkdowns supporting commissioning and first fire
Anticipates and proactively addresses potential construction-related issues and claims
Provides onsite leadership to the inspection team and enforces safety, health, and environmental regulatory and permit requirements
Leads field execution of maintenance capital projects at operating power generation facilities across the West region, including equipment repair, replacement, upgrade, and reliability work
Plans, sequences, and executes construction work within scheduled outages and maintenance cycles, driving outage readiness and on-time return to service to protect generation availability
Serves as an extension of the plant operations and maintenance teams, coordinating daily with operations leadership on site access, work permits, lockout/tagout and clearances, and safe work around energized and operating equipment
Partners with project managers on annual maintenance capital planning, providing constructability input, field estimates, and schedule durations, and supports budgeting and forecast cycles (including 10+2 forecasting) with accurate field cost and progress data
Conducts and contributes to construction risk assessments for equipment maintenance and replacement work, and develops field-level mitigation plans that address safety, operational, schedule, and cost risk
Communicates clearly and credibly with all levels of the organization, from senior operations leaders to plant technicians and craft, to build alignment and resolve field issues quickly
Collaborates with the Eastern maintenance capital team to apply consistent field execution practices, and helps establish the construction processes and contractor base for the growing West team
