Company Overview:
MP Materials (NYSE: MP) is rebuilding American industrial capability for a new era of autonomy, robotics, and electrification.
We are the only U.S. company with a fully integrated rare earth supply chain—from mining and refining to advanced metal and magnet manufacturing. Our products include both the critical materials used to make permanent magnets and the finished magnets themselves—enabling next-generation technologies in robotics, automation, aerospace, transportation, defense, and energy systems. These materials are the foundation of physical AI—the convergence of computation, movement, and control.
We hire ambitious, mission-driven people who want to tackle complex challenges and shape the future of strategic industries. Our culture is rooted in teamwork, resiliency, and integrity, with a deep commitment to operational excellence and national purpose. MP is rapidly evolving from a materials producer into a leading U.S. manufacturer—and our people are driving that transformation.
Position Overview:
The Project Procurement Specialist will support procurement execution for MP Materials' major capital projects, with an initial focus on the development of our 10X magnet manufacturing facility in Fort Worth, TX. This role will independently manage procurement activities for assigned equipment, materials, construction, and service packages while working closely with Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Logistics, and EPC partners to support safe, on-time, and on-budget project delivery.
The successful candidate will bring hands-on capital project procurement experience and be comfortable managing sourcing events, commercial evaluations, negotiations, supplier performance, expediting, and delivery coordination in a fast-paced industrial project environment. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, identify and resolve commercial and supply risks, and work independently while maintaining strong alignment with project stakeholders.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage procurement activities for assigned equipment, materials, construction, and service packages from sourcing strategy through award, delivery, and closeout.
Partner with Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Project Controls, Logistics, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, forecast procurement needs, and align sourcing and delivery activities with project schedules and priorities.
Develop and execute RFQs and RFPs, coordinate technical and commercial bid evaluations, negotiate commercial terms, and develop supplier and contractor award recommendations.
Monitor and provide commercial oversight of EPC procurement activities within assigned project scopes, challenging sourcing decisions, commercial recommendations, supplier selections, and delivery performance as appropriate.
Partner with Legal, Supply Chain, and project stakeholders to negotiate appropriate commercial terms and conditions, ensure required contractual flow-down provisions are incorporated, and appropriately manage commercial and contractual risk.
Manage supplier and contractor performance following award, including expediting, schedule commitments, commercial changes, documentation, and resolution of quality, delivery, shortage, or damage issues that may impact project execution.
Coordinate with Logistics, warehouse, and project teams to support timely delivery, receipt, and availability of equipment and materials in accordance with project requirements.
Identify procurement, supplier, commercial, and schedule risks and proactively develop mitigation plans or escalate issues that could impact project cost, schedule, quality, or execution.
Conduct commercial analysis, including total cost of ownership, bid normalization, cost analysis, and other financial evaluations to support sourcing and award decisions.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with suppliers, contractors, EPC partners, and internal stakeholders to support successful project execution.
Maintain awareness of relevant market conditions, supply sources, capacity constraints, cost drivers, and technologies that may impact assigned procurement packages or create opportunities for improved value.
Maintain accurate procurement records, commitments, supplier information, and project documentation within applicable ERP and procurement systems, while ensuring compliance with MP Materials policies, procedures, Delegation of Authority, and project-specific requirements.
Support continuous improvement of project procurement processes, systems, tools, and governance as MP Materials expands its major capital project capabilities.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent relevant professional experience will also be considered.
Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, commercial management, contract management, or related supply chain roles.
Demonstrated experience supporting procurement for industrial capital projects, including engineered equipment, materials, construction services, and/or other project-related scopes.
Demonstrated ability to independently manage procurement packages through multiple stages of the procurement lifecycle, including RFQ/RFP development, bid evaluation, commercial analysis, negotiation, award, supplier management, and delivery.
Experience working cross-functionally with Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Logistics, and other project stakeholders.
Experience supporting greenfield and/or brownfield projects in a capital-intensive industrial environment is preferred, including experience working with EPC/EPCM organizations, managing long-lead equipment or complex project packages, and providing post-award commercial or supplier oversight.
Willingness to travel as required to project sites and supplier, contractor, or EPC/EPCM locations.
Desired Qualities:
Master's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.
CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) and/or PMP (Project Management Professional) certification preferred.
Strong commercial, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to evaluate cost, schedule, contractual, and supply risks.
Strong contracting experience and working knowledge of commercial terms and conditions, contractual risk, scope development, indemnities, liabilities, warranties, and other commercial provisions.
Experience with ERP and procurement systems, including SAP, Ariba, or similar platforms.
Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing requirements, and make sound commercial decisions in a fast-paced project environment.
